What is your plan, then?
To sweeten the playing field
with swathes of honeyed, sticky, silk?
Or perhaps to lull me into
stillness with your softly
roving fingers
to trap me with a clang of metal?
I won’t work.
I am air and words,
things that change, move,
that have lives of their own
which has nothing to do
with squelching, swollen flesh or dripping eyes.
